Helping St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has played an integral role in saving the lives of children suffering from severely debilitating diseases, having spent more than half a century finding cures and saving children. Their trailblazing research and efforts have pushed the survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent in 1962 to more than 80 percent today.
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures and discover means of prevention for life-threatening pediatric diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family's ability to pay.
St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway
Started in 1991 by Dr. Donald Mack, a pediatric physician from Shreveport, Louisiana, the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway has become a pivotal part of the fundraising efforts by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude relies heavily upon community fundraising to uphold its mission and to ensure that no family members have to deal with the overwhelming financial burden of medical expenses for their child's care.
The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is one of the largest single-event fundraisers in the nation for St. Jude and has raised more than $290 million. Over the years, the program has exploded from its origin in Shreveport, Louisiana, to more than 30 locations across the United States.
